2018 Homecoming Powder Puff Game

On October 5, 2018, the enthusiastic football fans of Midlo High gathered to watch the 2018 Powder Puff game. Midlo students poured into the stadium to cheer on this showdown between the junior and senior girls. This year, Christian Chambers, James Oliver, and Trey Gholson coached the juniors, and Neil Richburg, Jacoby Martin, Frankie Falchi, Isaiah Morton, Brayden Staib, Noah Smith, and John Jennings coached the seniors.

Following extensive preparatory practices, both teams held a competitive spirit, ready to take down the opposite grade. The seniors dressed in bright pink, while the juniors donned neon green t-shirts. Before the game, each team stretched and huddled to come up with a game plan.

In the fight for the Powder Puff Champs title, seniors started the game with a bang, with a pass thrown into the end zone, caught by Abbi Leeper, giving the seniors a 6 point lead. This fueled the juniors, as Olivia Ibanez tied the game 6-6 at the end of the first half, running the ball a staggering 50 yards into the end zone.

In the second half, each team came out fired up and ready to pull ahead. The juniors started with the ball but were unable to score. As the clock ticked down, the score still resting at a tie, the seniors gained possession of the ball with an interception from Bailey Honrado. Taylor Shook finished the job, using her speed to take the ball to the end zone. With one minute left, the score remained 12-6, Seniors, until junior Katie Gaeth ran the ball into the end zone, tying the score at 12-12. Senior Erin Babashak says,” The score didn’t reflect the game; Seniors rule!”

The game finished with 12-12 score, but juniors took the victory since they scored last. Gaeth summed up the game by saying “The class of 2020 made history.” The Junior Class anticipates coming back next year, as seniors, to take the Powder Puff title once again.
