Parents return to the classroom

2019 Back to School Night

Mrs. Carolyn Manheim hosts a class full of parents on Back to School Night.

On Monday, September 17, 2019, at the Midlothian High Back to School Night, Trojan parents made their way through the halls of Midlo to experience the routines their children live every day as high school students.  The night kicked off with a Senior Sit Down in the auditorium, during which Midlo’s Counseling Coordinator, Ms. Loretta Speller, spoke to seniors and parents regarding the upcoming events and deadlines to come.  Following the release of the seniors and their parents, numerous colleges, such as:  James Madison University, Longwood University, Christopher Newport University, University of Alabama, University of Tennessee, University of Kentucky, and many more colleges from across Virginia and beyond welcomed students to booths in the open commons to promote their programs.

Following the senior festivities, MHS parents of all grades filed into the school, eager to locate their students’ homerooms, begin meeting the teachers, and experience high school life. As they switched from class to class, Mrs. Denise Bowes‘ group of Sidekicks helped the confused parents navigate their way around the school. Sidekicks, such as Sarah Nugent, Abigail Smith, and Grace Ruggiero, along with Dr. Shawn Abel, Mrs. Christina Frias, and more directed each and every parent to their designated classrooms throughout the night to ensure that Back to School Night ran smoothly for all parties. Senior Vic Lin shared, “Back to School Night could’ve been really crazy and confusing, but the Sidekicks and faculty really helped the parents to experience a nice night at school.”

The parents enjoyed hearing about the classes their students experience every day, as well as meeting the people who teach their children the information they need to know to excel in life beyond Midlo. Another successful Back to School Night ushered in another great school year for Midlothian High School.
