Dressed in holiday attire, the music department presented a winter concert on Dec. 14 in the auditorium. Performances were held for students during 3rd block, as well as after school at 7 p.m. The program included musical performances from the Trojan bands, guitar classes, choirs, orchestras, and percussion groups. The concert was organized by performing arts teacher and director of choirs, Atticus Finn.
City Lights performed the songs “Silent Night”, “Holiday Gloria”, and “Coventry Carol”. Just for Show, a co-ed dance ensemble, sang the Frozen Choral suite and the White Winter hymnal. Frozen Choral Suite is the opening song from the popular Disney movie Frozen and White Winter Hymnal uses body percussion to create sound effects.
The Orchestra performed the holiday songs “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”, “Boreas”, and “Sarajevo”. The Trojan Band joined them on stage to play “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson together. Then, the Chorus followed and all three groups played Vaughan Williams, “Christmas Carol”.
“We’ve been playing these songs since November and doing after school rehearsals from 3-4 p.m. to prepare,” cello player, Kaylee Kong (9), said. “I liked playing Vaughan Williams’ Christmas Carol with the chorus and band, because it joined all three groups together and brought the songs to life,” said Kong. In spring the department will also present a spring concert for students.
