Marvel Studios released the third chapter of the Spider-Man trilogy on Friday, December 17, 2021.

Marvel Studios released Spider-Man: No Way Home on December 17, 2021, bringing crowds from near and far into the theaters. Since the film is the third and final chapter of the latest Spider-Man trilogy, fans across the world were eager to see how the story would end. Both of the sequels, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, were highly successful, contributing to the anticipation for Peter Parker’s final adventure.

The film features English actor Tom Holland who bravely fulfills the superhero role once again after first stepping into the Spider-Man suit in 2017. Receiving stand-out reviews from audiences of all ages for his performance, Holland continued to bring the talent in the second movie, as well as in other Marvel classics, such as Captain America: Civil War, Avengers End Game and Avengers End Game.

Leading up to the action-pack final chapter, audiences followed Spider Man’s character from the moment he faced an evil vulture on in the first movie to the elemental creatures he had to battle against in the second.

Now, Holland’s latest work in Spider-Man: No Way Home picks up directly where the last movie left off. Focusing on how the superhero’s identity has been revealed to the public, the film explores how he is unable to keep his normal life as Peter Parker separate from the pressures of being a heroic figure. In an attempt to combat the challenges this situation has created, Parker seeks help from fellow superhero Doctor Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, who is willing to cast a spell that erases people’s knowledge regarding the truth behind the Spider-Man mask.

Throughout the third installment, fans spotted many well-known actors who took to the screen to be a part of the thrilling final chapter. From  Spider-Men of the past, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, to  Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, Jacob Batalon, Willem Defoe, all of whom are new to the franchise, each of these characters played an important role in helping Spider-Man overcome the challenges his new situation posed.

The brotherhood and camaraderie of past Spider-Men  is showcased in this record-breaking film. “No way home seemed to have extended to the trio’s relationship offscreen too, I still can’t believe it happened,” Garfield said.

One of the most notable figures in Spider-Man: No Way Home, however, was Defoe, who returned to his role as the Green Goblin. His character represented an evil presence who had a personal vendetta against Spider-Man. Acting as the super-villain every superhero needs, the Green Goblin helped develop a unique plot that was sure to put audiences on the edge of their seats.

The movie undoubtedly pleased many, as its domestic box office number from over four thousand theaters stands at $260 million. This put the movie in second place for the highest-grossing domestic opening of all time despite the studio’s concerns over the effects COVID-19 would have on in-person screenings.

With the last chapter, many feared this would mark the end of Holland’s run as the iconic Spider-Man, yet the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, has recently confirmed that a fourth film is currently in development. However, the question remains: what will be next in Spider-Man’s character development, and what is going to be the next chapter after this commercially successful trilogy?
