CCPS Superintendent, Dr. Merv Dougherty surprises Midlo Principal Shawn Abel with the Game Changer Award.

On Thursday, February 7, 2019, CCPS Superintendent Dr. Mervin B. Daugherty traveled to Midlothian High School to deliver the Chesterfield County Public Schools Game Changer Award to Principal Shawn Abel. Daughtery began this practice when he joined CCPS this year as superintendent to show appreciation and thanks for all of the hard-working teachers, administrators, and staff who make CCPS a premier school system. He delivers the Game Changer awards each week during the school year to promote hard work, dedication, and excellence in all Chesterfield schools.

Regarding his big surprise, Principal Abel shared, “I was completely caught off guard.  I truly thought Dr. Daugherty was here for another reason, and even when he said he had a Game Changer award, I said, ‘Okay, let’s go,’ as if we were off to present the award to someone else.  It made my day – the timing was perfect. I don’t know why I was chosen, as I’m surrounded by so many amazing professionals who are more deserving. ” This new system of recognizing exceptional CCPS employees seeks to display and commend the heart and dedication exhibited every day in Chesterfield schools.
