Sophie Stroud, 12, announced her verbal commitment to play soccer at James Madison University for the 2023/2024 school year on Oct. 30.  Stroud has been playing soccer for the past 10 years and plays for both the girls’ varsity team and club for Richmond United.

Family played a role in Stroud’s decision, as they have been her supporters since the beginning of her soccer journey.

“A big deciding factor for me was the fact that it was in state so my family could come to my games, which was really important because they have supported me so much through this process,” Stroud said.

Stroud is ecstatic to continue her academic and athletic career at JMU because she believes it is the best place to continue her journey.

“I absolutely loved everything about JMU,” Stroud said.  “When I toured the campus, I knew there was no other choice and they had the best soccer program that fit what I was looking for. It just felt right.”
