Senior Ellie Herndon looks forward to continuing her softball career with her commitment to Randolph-Macon College.

At the age of six, Ellie Herndon began playing softball, and she has been in love with the sport ever since.  After playing for twelve years, Herndon will continue playing softball at the collegiate level, with her commitment to Randolph-Macon College

In her early years, Herndon grew up surrounded by baseball, which inspired her to start playing softball. Her coaches quickly recognized her natural talent, and in fifth grade, Herndon decided to join a travel team. Currently, she plays for the Dixie Chicks under Coach Allan Spencer

Herndon joined Midlo’s JV softball team during her eighth-grade year and she has played on the varsity team for the past four years of high school. In the off-season, Herndon plays for the girls basketball team to stay in shape for softball.

“The relationships that I have made over the years and the challenges that I face keep me going. I hate losing, so whenever there is a setback, it just motivates me to work more,” Herndon said.

Throughout her athletic career, Coach Layton has made a lasting impact on her. After starting as her basketball coach, he is now her current softball coach. Herndon describes that “he has always been there for me as a shoulder to cry on, a voice of reason when I want to quit, and a motivator to work hard.”

The deciding factor between Randolph-Macon and other colleges was R-Mc’s outstanding coaching staff and tight community. This year Herndon will play her final season as a Trojan before she continues her career as a Yellow Jacket.

Congratulations, Ellie!
