Midlo girls soccer looks for success on senior night
Girls Varsity Soccer Senior Night 2021
At the beginning of the year, it remained unknown as to whether or not student-athletes would have the ability to represent their school through their respective sports. As for Midlo, the Girls Varsity Soccer team had the opportunity to carry out their season and on May 6, 2021, played the Cosby Titans where they honored their seniors at Senior Night. The team consisted of seven graduating seniors this year: Nina Franklin, Erin Wasson, Libby Friedman, Mackenzie Dwyer, Sarah Nugent, Madison Stockdale and Riley Brown.
What was looking to be a promising night for the Lady Trojans turned into a loss with the final score consisted of three goals for the Titans, and zero for the Trojans. Despite the tough defeat, the seniors were still honored for all of their hard work and dedication over the last four years. “The juniors each made a poster for the seniors and we got balloons and decorated a banner for them…. they have been great leaders and amazing friends for the past four years. This year’s seniors have most definitely left a mark on the underclassmen. I think I can speak on behalf of the whole team when I say these seniors love soccer and this team more than anything and it will be so sad to see them go,” junior Lucy Edwards said.
As the seven seniors reflected on their time at Midlo, a couple of the girls’ favorite times on the team came from the 2018-2019 season. Both Franklin and Friedman shared that their favorite memory from Midlo soccer was “winning regionals and going to states sophomore year.” Wasson, a captain on the team, has enjoyed the connections she has made with many of the other girls. “My favorite memory from soccer is the relationships I made with a ton of the girls and I enjoy(ed) being a leader for the younger girls,” Wasson said. Before graduating in just a couple of weeks, Franklin, Wasson and Friedman had a few last pieces of advice to share with the underclassmen. “Don’t stress too much about school, and try to make as many memories with your friends before everyone goes to college,” Franklin said. In a similar fashion, Wasson reminds younger students to “have fun, but work for what you want because that work will pay off in the end, and live life, we have limited years until we have to pay taxes!” As for Freidman, she simply wants underclassmen to remember to “make it fun even when it’s not.”
In one final send-off to the seniors, Edwards expresses that “these seniors love soccer and this team more than anything and it will be so sad to see them go but we wish them the best of luck in college.”
