Keep a Child Warm This Winter
2017 Puritan Cleaners Coats for Kids Campaign
Do you have coats that have gone out of style, do not fit, or just need space?
Since 1998, Puritan Cleaners has set up a campaign to collect winter coats for impoverished families who cannot afford a proper winter coat to keep them warm. The company collects coats of all sizes every November during the Coats for Kids campaign. Every year, Puritan Cleaners averages around 15,000 coats and have collected 400,000 coats since the beginning of the campaign. They wash, repair, and deliver the coats to the Salvation Army, whose volunteers go out to impoverished neighborhoods and deliver the coats to families.
This year, Puritan Cleaners teamed up with the Richmond Flying Squirrels to host a block party to collect coats. On Sunday October 29, 2017, from 11 am to 2 pm, Squirrels fans can come by The Diamond to enjoy live music, free chili tastings, and crafts for the kids. The fans are asked to come with a winter coat as their entry ticket, and they will receive a raffle ticket to win Flying Squirrel prizes.
Midlothian High School also will collect winter coats for this cause. If you would like to donate a coat or want more information, come to Mrs. Tully’s room, 116, in the English hallway.
