On September 25, 2017, the fifth-ranked Lady Trojans Volleyball team faced the fourth-ranked Rebels of Douglas S. Freeman High School.   When the team arrived at Freeman, they had the energy of winners and felt excited to play.   Before the game, Coach Sherman Chung encouraged the team to win and said to watch Freeman’s setter.   After the huddle broke, the Trojans took the court ready to defeat the Rebels.

The first set started out slowly for the Trojans by falling behind 2 points after the first couple serves.   As they trailed the Rebels, the focus and intensity intensified.   After two sets, the match was tied 1-1, and Freeman would get the first serve.   Throughout the match leads changed between the Trojans and the Rebels.   Olivia Ibanez said, “The game was really well-fought by both teams, but they took advantage of the mistakes we made.”

Junior Abbi Leeper had an excellent game with around 10 kills.  Another junior, Baylea Botello, had many hits and blocks.    Although our Trojans fell to Freeman, they played an intense and competitive match.   The game ended with three sets for Freeman to one set for Midlothian.   After the game, the Trojans kept their heads high, not allowing defeat keep them down, as shown by their defeat of the Skyhawks of L.C. Byrd three sets to none the next day.
