Ms. Brooke Rekito, English teacher

Knowing that teaching is a difficult career, Midlo Scoop wanted to see what it is like for a brand new teacher.  Ms. Brooke Rekito joined the English Department at Midlothian High School this year and is already well-liked by both students and faculty.

When you aren’t teaching, what is your favorite activity to do outside of school?  I’m a reality TV junkie. I like watching the Bachelor and am currently caught up on all the seasons of Grey’s Anatomy; however, Game of Thrones is my favorite. I also really enjoy visiting my family; they live up in Fredericksburg, so I travel up there to see them.

If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you choose to be and why?  I definitely would choose to be somewhere warm right now, like Australia. [Also], Ireland and London have always been places I would like to visit.

What inspired you to become a teacher?  My grandfather because he was an English teacher for many years and inspired me to be like him. Also, I’m a big nerd; I love to read! Shakespeare and the theater have always interested me as well.

What is your favorite singer/band?  Coldplay is definitely my favorite band, and I would have to choose Miranda Lambert as my favorite artist. I love to listen to everything, actually.

What are your favorite sports teams?  Honestly, I’m not a huge sports fan. I do, however, like the Eagles, but, other than that, I don’t really follow any sports teams.

Who is your favorite author, and what is your favorite book?  I absolutely love Edgar Allen Poe, but there’s no way I can choose a favorite book. That’s too hard because I love so many books.
