During the week of September 21st, 2025, Midlo students and faculty alike welcomed the return of Homecoming season by participating in the Student Council Association (SCA) Spirit Week. From Disney Day to Celebrity Twin Day, Midlo showed up and showed out, everyone sporting their best funky and fun attire for each theme. Midlo’s Spirit Weeks serve as a testimony to the resourcefulness and creative thinking in our school. Between students creating their own pieces for their outfits or others repurposing old clothes, it is certain that Midlo is spirited. Keep reading to see the best outfits of each day and the inspiration behind them!
Mickey Monday

We started off strong with Mickey Monday in which our Midlo family got decked out in Disney. I spoke with Heather Pantle (Grade 11) and Ms. Hargrave about their participation in the theme, which they both based on their personal affinities for Disney characters or parks.
Sporting an absolutely incredible princess ensemble, Heather told me she was inspired to emulate Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty because she “has always liked [her] and was almost named after her.”
Similarly, science teacher and SCA sponsor Ms. Hargrave remarked that she wanted to go “full out Disney” but rooted her look in a few central pieces from special trips to the Disney parks. She beamed “Disney really is the happiest place on Earth,” concluding that she “loves Disney” and was “so excited to bring out her Disneyworld stuff.”
Teen Beach Face Off Tuesday
On Tuesday, we moved on to our Teen Beach Faceoff Day in the battle of Surfers and Rockabillies, based on the classic Disney Channel films.

I spoke with Savannah Cheatham (grade 12) and Elliot Marshall (grade 11) about their participation in the spirit day, both rocking Hawaiian shirts for the surfer subsect of the theme. Savannah reflects that she has “watched Teen Beach just a little bit before” and enjoyed the surfers’ style, inciting Elliot to agree and for them to coordinate their outfits as a surfer duo. Elliot actually noted that he has “gone to Margaritaville almost every single Spring Break since middle school,” which is where got his shirt that he used to participate on Tuesday.
Additionally, I talked to principal, Dr. Shawn Abel (Left) and assistant principal, Mr. Lagow (Right) about their looks for Teen Beach Tuesday in which Dr. Abel shared that “any reason to wear a Hawaiian shirt is all the inspiration [he] needs.” Mr. Lagow concurred, citing specific enjoyment in wearing a “polo shirt in the middle of the week.”
Wacky Wig Wednesday

Wacky Wig Wednesday let students and faculty embrace their wildest hairdos. At lunch, I discussed the spirit day with Molly Bozzo ( grade 11) who chronicled her experience in selecting her look for Wednesday, detailing that her wig “belongs to [her] mom [and was a] gameday wig for Virginia Tech” inspiring her to pair it with a shirt representing the university as the vibrant coloring didn’t match with much else in her wardrobe. She concluded that “everybody loves a good wig” and that the “craziness” of the theme was very exciting.
Lucy Wieber (grade 11) also rocked a bold wig on Wednesday, expressing she has been “thinking about changing [her] hair recently and…wanted to do something drastic” since she has never dyed her hair before. She wanted to get a taste of the experience of non-natural hair by “[going] crazy”, as she described it, with a fluorescent green wig.
Celebrity Look Alike Thursday
As the week continued running its course of creative craziness, we marked Thursday of our 2025 Homecoming week with Celebrity Look-alike Day. I chatted with Spanish teacher Profe Moncada about her exquisite outfit representing musical icon Selena. She explained that she landed on this outfit in “trying to find an influential Hispanic/Latina” to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month as well as Homecoming. Profe Moncada eventually enlisted the help of her daughter who immediately suggesting Selena. She chose her based on her role as an “influential part of Latin American and Hispanic culture” as an “amazing singer, author, and businesswoman,” inspiring many women of today.
Monochrome Madness Friday

To round out the week, Midlo readied itself for the Homecoming Pep Rally with Monochrome Madness. Freshman wore pink, Sophomores wore blue, Juniors wore black, and Seniors sported white togas.
I conversed with Amaya Nicole Ralph (Left, 9) and Nedah Pompello (Right, 9). Amaya told me that she put pink butterfly clips in her hair for the day, and Nedah reported reusing of multiple items in her ensemble, specifically her tutu and tiara, from the 8th grade pink out day last year. She also spoke about her face paint, describing how she does it “whenever we have a spirit day.”
All in all, Midlo had an excellent spirit week, distinguished by the impressive participation from our students and faculty in creative approaches to the themes and extreme dedication to the cultivation of their looks. This week set us up with great excitement going into Homecoming weekend and everyone’s participation was immensely appreciated in nurturing our Trojan spirit.
