The Great Gatsby was performed from November 21–23 in the auditorium, which was transformed into a 1920s setting for the audience to enjoy. The play is based off the book by F. Scott Fitzgerald, which is set in 1920’s New York. It follows the narrator, Nick Carraway’s, interactions with Jay Gatsby, the self made millionaire. Gatsby is captivated with reuniting with his former lover, Daisy Buchanan.
For months leading up to the production, the cast and crew dedicated countless hours to perfecting every detail—from acting and dancing to intricate set designs, such as a car.
“I played Gatsby and Daisy’s song on the piano, live, and sang it,” Paige Alley, 12, who played Klipspringer, said.
The costumes were elaborate, as flapper dresses were worn by the ensemble when they danced. However, not every outfit came with a price tag.
“I didn’t have to pay any money for costumes because I just pulled from my wardrobe,” Jazz Bruner, 12, who played Tom Buchanan, said.
Seniors are signing off on their last play performance before graduation. While there is a musical in the spring, some may not participate.
“This might be my last show,” Alley said. “With the IB exams in the spring, I won’t have time for the musical.”
Bruner expressed his pride in the legacy seniors are leaving behind.
“I feel like the senior class has made the theater a more supportive place,” Bruner said. “I’m proud of what it has become.”
