The baseball team celebrates the seniors for the night at Senior Night 2022.

On May 19, 2022, the Varsity Baseball Team celebrated their seniors with senior night at a home game against James River High School. As the game began, teammates cheered on the seniors as their families escorted them onto the diamond. “Senior day was an awesome day with beautiful sunshine, lots of fans, parents, and food for celebration,” assistant coach Bill “Pops” Chambers said. This year, the baseball team had four seniors: Andrew Jones, Joe Gordon, Alex McCreight, and Jack Copeland, all of whom have been on the team for five years.

Senior Baseball Class of 2022:

Andrew Jones is a starting pitcher, first baseman, and third baseman. “He blossomed at the end of the year, and was a winning pitcher against James River,” Chambers said. Jones will continue playing baseball at Virginia Military Institute in the fall.

Joe Gordon is a pitcher, first baseman, and a power hitter. He has been playing baseball since he was three years old.  He will continue playing baseball at Lynchburg University in the fall.

Jack Copeland started the season as a catcher until he suffered an injury, and after his recovery, Copeland returned to the team as the designated hitter. Copeland will attend Liberty University in the fall.

Alex McCreight was injured for most of this season and unable to play. “It was really a sad thing because he’s a great player,” Chambers said. McCreight will attend Charleston Southern University in the fall.

Congratulations, seniors!
