On October 13, 2021, the Midlothian Cross Country team ran in the final Dominion District Meet of their season. Held at Pocahontas State Park, the event honored cross country seniors from each of the competing schools, including Midlo’s very own athletes.

After the varsity races look place, seniors from each of the schools were celebrated. Coach David Benjamin introduced each Midlo senior while they received a poster with pictures encapsulating different memories from their time on the team. Each runner was also handed a flower as they lined up in front of their teammates and parents for a photo opportunity. This season’s seniors include Porter Clark, Madeline DuBois, Gabriella Garcia, Jack Laser, Tucker Meredith, Nicole Quiram, Cameron Reeve, Brooks Weeks, Owen Widrick and Jeremiah Woolfolk.

Porter Clark has been part of the Midlo Cross Country team for four years, running two of those years on the varsity team. He has enjoyed the opportunity to make lifelong friends while being on the team throughout high school and will miss all of them once he graduates. For the rest of the season, he hopes “to break 17 in the 5k.”

Madeline DuBois has been a part of the Cross Country team for three years, all three of those years on junior varsity. Her favorite memory from the team was “when we went to Denny’s one time from almost three hours after a really fun long run.” DuBois plans to enjoy the rest of the season by continuing to work towards her goals and spending time with her teammates. She will miss all of her teammates most and “laughing with them every day” after she leaves the program.

Gabriella Garcia has been a part of the varsity Cross Country team at Midlo since her sophomore year, after transferring from Monacan where she also ran. Garcia cherishes her memories, especially “going to Panera with the girls after runs or our trips to North Carolina where we would go to the Super Targets.” As the cross country season ends, she will miss racing in the woods and doing cross country workouts. Garcia hopes to continue to “have a good time with the girls at the meets” and participate in more team bonding activities. She looks forward to finishing her season by winning regions and states.

Jack Laser has run for the Midlo Cross Country team for four years, two of which were on varsity. Laser’s favorite memories from his time on the team have been “hanging out with the guys on the bus to and from the meets.” He will especially miss his rivalry with Porter after the season ends. He looks forward to running his last cross country meet in the coming weeks and hopefully running in the “mid 17s.”

Tucker Meredith has been a part of the Midlothian Junior Varsity Cross Country team for two years. His favorite memory is “going on lake runs with the whole team.” He will miss his teammates after graduating and hopes to finish his season by running sub-20 minutes in the 5k.

Nicole Quiram has been part of the Midlo Cross Country team for four years, all of which have been on varsity. One of her favorite memories was getting to race in New York where she was able to spend time with her teammates in the city during her freshman year. She will miss all of her teammates and the memories that she has made with them at practice every day. Quiram hopes to help the girls team advance to the State meet this year.

Cameron Reeve has been a part of the Cross Country team for three years, two of which were on the varsity team. He will miss “hanging out with everyone after practice and at meets.” Reeve hopes “to break 18 by the end of the season” and watch his teammates set personal records as well. He also looks forward to continuing to build his friendships with all of his teammates throughout the remainder of the season.

Brooks Weeks has run for the Cross Country team for four years with this being his first year on the varsity team. His most memorable race was the RVA Relays race this year where he got to race in the dark. As he leaves the team, he will hold onto the memories of “early morning meets with my best friends.” Weeks hopes to finish his season by breaking 19 minutes at the regions meet.

Owen Widrick has been a part of the XC team for four years, two of which have been on varsity. His favorite memory from his time on the team is “running with Jack Laser and Cameron at the Milestat meet last year” where was able to PR. He will miss “the overall atmosphere and how much fun it is to run with all the guys after school every day.” Widrick hopes to finish his season y setting a new personal record.

Jeremiah Woolfolk has been a part of the cross country team for two years, both on the junior varsity team. Woolfolk cherishes “all the practices, races, conversations, runs and moments spent together” with his teammates and will miss being with them once the season ends. He hopes to finish his season with another PR and racing at the regions meet.

The team now looks to compete at the VHSL Region 5C Meet on Wednesday, November 3, 2021.

Congratulations, seniors!
