Long verbals to the Allegheny Gators
Commitment Alert: Cameron Long, Allegheny College Softball
On September 27, 2019, senior Cameron Long verbally committed to play softball at Allegheny College. Long looks forward to her next four years at Allegheny and anticipates her future as a Gator.
Long began playing tee ball at the young age of 4, moving into softball at 8. Long explains, “I tried a bunch of different sports, but I fell in love with softball.” Long quickly immersed herself in the sport and eventually grew a strong passion for the game. As a young player, Long began her career with Chesterfield Storm, then moved onto Chesterfield Impulse. As her passion grew, Long used her talents on several teams, including: Rampage, Williamsburg Starz Gold, and Virginia Legends.
This spring, Long will begin her fourth year on the Midlothian Varsity Softball team and looks to lead the team to a successful season as a senior. Senior pitcher Emily Morrison states, “Cameron is hard working, caring, and very easy to get along with; she knows how to build up teammates and does not have a mean bone in her body. Her passion for sports medicine is amazing, and I know she will go far because she puts in the hours it takes to be great.”
Long explains, “Every little kid has that dream of playing in college, and I was one of those kids.” With hopes of achieving this goal, Long attended many tournaments and camps, where her future coaches first spotted her. After looking at Virginia Tech and UVA-Wise, Long eagerly committed to Allegheny College. She chose to join the Gators because “it felt like home when I walked on the campus. I loved the team, the campus, the coaches, and the size of the school.” While at Allegheny, Long plans to major in Sports Medicine. Long looks forward to joining a top-notch softball program and looks forward to becoming a Gator in 2020.
