In a thrilling clash at F.W. Poates Stadium,  the Midlothian Trojans faced their toughest challenge of the season yet, squaring off against the Deep Run Wildcats. Despite the Wildcats holding a pedestrian record of 3-3, they have shown the potential of being a dangerous team that can pose matchup issues with their frontline. Both teams currently rank in the top 30 ranking  their contemporaries due to strength in schedule, offensive and defensive metrics, and goal differential.

The game began with a flurry of action as the Wildcats stormed ahead to a 3-0 lead, capitalizing on multiple opportunities inside three feet. Despite the early deficit, the Trojans remained undeterred, knowing they were up against a formidable adversary. Head Coach Greg Barnard’s instant adjustments proved crucial as the Trojans clawed their way back into the game, and by the end of the first quarter, the score was tied at 3, reflecting the evenly distributed momentum on both sides.

As the game progressed into the second quarter, neither team was willing to yield an inch. The Wildcats’ star player, Jack McNally, showcased his exceptional skill, making it difficult for Midlothian to contain him on rushes. Additionally, the Wildcats’ stout defense posed challenges for the Trojans, particularly on the outskirts of the field where ball handling became arduous. Despite these obstacles, the Trojans matched the Wildcats step for step, and the second quarter ended with the score knotted at 7.

Entering the pivotal third quarter, the Trojans knew they had to seize the momentum to gain an edge over their formidable opponent. After a back-and-forth battle in the second quarter, they managed to do just that. With precision and determination, the Trojans orchestrated strategic plays and exhibited cohesive teamwork, allowing them to pull ahead and establish control of the game.

Heading into the final quarter, the Trojans found themselves in a prime position to secure the win. With the game on the line, they unleashed a relentless offensive onslaught, closing out the game on a 4-1 run. Their outstanding defense in the box and on the perimeter stifled any attempts by the Wildcats to mount a comeback, securing a hard-earned victory for Midlothian.

A standout performance came from Landon Locke, who etched his name in the annals of Trojans lacrosse history with five goals and two assists. Locke’s exceptional offensive display played a pivotal role in the Trojans’ triumph; especially in the first half of the game while they where trailing. Additionally, Luke McMahon contributed three crucial goals, while Riley Andrake’s dynamic playmaking consistently left a dent in the Wildcats’ defensive gameplan, creating scoring opportunities for the Trojans.

As the Trojans celebrated their win at the double zero mark, they instinctively knew that their toughest test of the season awaited them on April 24, when they would face off against the 4-1 Hanover Hawks on the road. With their resilience and determination on full display against the Wildcats, the Trojans were ready to rise to the challenge and continue their quest for a state championship.
