The Polar Plunge took place during MAP on Friday at F.W Poates Stadium. Even though it was raining, teachers and staff were ready to plunge in the cold water while students watched. Since students raised over $6,000 for the event, the administrators were dunked in the ice baths. Not only was Dr. Abel dunked it the ice water, but Officer McDonough slid down a slip n slide, then jumped into both ice baths.
“Going into the ice bath was not that bad,” Science teacher, Katie Rhodes, said. “When I was submerged in the cold water, I was fine. Having to come back up was the worst part because of how cold it was.”
“We are going to be using the football ice baths,” Special Ed teacher, Marie Ranrianasolo, said. “They are pretty deep and we will fill them with water and ice. The teachers and staff will have to go in them and dunk.”
The funds earned from tickets and donations will go to the Special Ed and Champions Together classes. Along with that, some of the money will go to the Special Olympics. “We have not fully decided what the money will be spent on, but we are looking for more warm up suits or backpacks for our Medford Team or our Champions Track team,” Ranrianasolo said. “The money will be spent on supplies we need and to keep our program running.”
