During a home match on Wednesday, January 26, the seniors of the Midlo Wrestling team were recognized during the 2022 Senior Night ceremony. The Trojans competed against Patrick Henry where the team came out on top with the help of their star athletes. However, setting the tone for the night prior to the match-ups, each of the senior wrestlers was escorted across the mat by loved ones as spectators cheered them on.

Trojan Wrestling Team Seniors:

Crew Gregory currently holds the impressive title of 2021 Virginia State Champion and hopes to earn it once again this year at the 2022 State Tournament. He has been wrestling for a total of twelve years with the local Midlothian Miners Wrestling Club and has wrestled for Midlo throughout his entire high school career. He has hopes of attending either the University of Virginia or Virginia Tech after graduating.

Robbie Painter plans on attending West Virginia University to become a teacher and physical trainer. He has wrestled for eleven years but has been a part of the Midlo team for the past four years. Painter’s favorite memory from being involved with the program is when he and his teammates John Bolstad, Crew Gregory and Ashby Berry “all won back-to-back-to-back in finals at Lee-Davis,” Painter said.

Alex MacFarlane has been involved with the sport of wrestling for six years, four of which have been at Midlo, where he first began on the junior varsity team. In conjunction with wrestling, Macfarlane has also played football for the Trojans since his sophomore year. Over the course of his time on the team, his favorite memory was “when [his] teammate Jalen broke the sprinkler in the storage room during practice,” MacFarlane said. Upon graduating from Midlo, MacFarlane will attend the Virginia Military Institute.

Will Haemker has been wrestling for Midlo since his freshman year of high school, in addition to being a varsity football player. Haemker plans on attending Virginia Tech where he will study through the school’s dairy program in order to pursue his dream of being a full-time farmer.

Matthew Notariani has been a part of the Midlo Trojans Wrestling Program since his sophomore year, in addition to playing on the varsity football team. Notariani’s favorite memories consist of “all the quality time [he] got to spend with each one of [his] teammates,” Notariani said.

Jacob Seiden is only a first-year wrestler, but has enjoyed every minute of it. Over the past few months he has “loved going to the meets and supporting [his] team, especially at the senior night match,” Seiden said. As for his plan after high school, Seiden hopes to attend Virginia Tech where he will pursue a degree focused on construction building.

Congratulations, seniors!
