The Midlo Trojanettes compete at the Kelly Green Invitational.

On January 17, 2020, the Midlo Trojanettes traveled to Clover Hill High School for the Kelly Green Invitational. Nine schools gathered at 6:00 pm to showcase their skillful dance routines. In the past competition, Midlo failed to place, so the team was determined to take home a trophy this time around. The Midlo dance season runs for the majority of the school year, as the Trojanettes perform at Pep Rallies, home football games, and rival basketball games. The ladies work year-round to perfect their foot work, timing, and execution.

To add to the sophistication of their routines, the dancers match in uniforms, hair, and makeup. The first dance was a jazz performance to the the song Instruction by Jax Jones. The upbeat and funky music uplifted the energy of the team. Mckenna Fecht, Katelyn Sawyer, and Sadie Grey closed out the performance with aerials, sending the audience into applause. Next, the dancers incorporated pom poms into their routine. A short intermission followed to allow all dancers to rest and prepare for the final show.

The Trojanettes performed their Hip Hop routine to Pure Water by DJ Mustard. Three judges with strong dance backgrounds deliberated at the end of the competition. The top three places for each category were awarded a trophy. Although the competition was tough,  Midlo earned third place in the Hip Hop competition. Junior Anna Sommardhal shares, “Our teamwork, sharp turns, and fluid movements helped us place as well as we did, but I hope that next year we will work harder to be Grand Champs.”
