Midlo welcomes Mr. Davis into their English Department

What do you like most about English?

I enjoy the reading aspect of English the most, specifically non-fiction. Reading about others’ lives and how they dealt with certain situations, which includes adversity or other challenging scenarios have always been interesting to me.

What other schools have you taught at?

I taught at Salem Church Middle School.

What do you like to do outside of school?

I play on a travel lacrosse team and indoor soccer. I also play guitar on the weekends at various locations.

What was your least favorite subject in school?

My least favorite subject was math because I always had a difficult time solving equations, as well as, I am impatient. Therefore, I never showed my work and got in trouble all the time.

Did you have any people who inspired you to be who you are?

People who have inspired me over the years would be my mother, because I always wanted to make her proud. Cal Ripken Jr. because of his impeccable work ethic. Lastly, Brigadier General Long because he defined what it means to be a leader for me.

What made you want to become an English teacher?

Honestly, in high school, my 10th and 11th grade English teachers were awful to me. They treated me poorly and had no patience when I needed the extra help to be successful. When I left my job with the Department of Defense and pursued being an English teacher, I vowed to never let a student feel the same way I did.

Have you had any other jobs before teaching?

Out of college, I worked for the Virginia National Guard during Gov. McDonnell’s tenure, as well as part time at the Country Club of Virginia.
