Students packed in white filled the stands, their school spirit, and their baby powder, flying through the air. But when the buzzer sounded, signifying the end of the 4th quarter, the scoreboard looked grim. Our Trojans had taken their first hit of the season, a 56-7 loss to the Huguenot Falcons. Prior to the game, the Falcons had a standing of 2-1 for the season, with this win bringing their victories up to 3-1.
“It’s a game of momentum, that’s all it is,” Coach Zo reminded his junior player, Evan Wirt, after the first few minutes into the first quarter.
I wouldn’t say we had a strategy [coming into the game], I say we came in focused and did our assignment,” Malik Toliver (12) said. “Everyone played to the best of their ability, but things happened.”

After the Trojanette performance and crowning of Homecoming Queen Melrose Roth (12) at halftime, the Trojans continued to get to work. A pass made to Tyler Kaegy (10) in the third quarter ended in a touchdown for the Trojans, bringing the score to 43-7. “[It was a] pretty big adrenaline rush [for me],” Kaegy said. “The momentum of the game was already kind of going in the other way, and that helped to turn it around a bit.”
The team will continue their season by facing off against the Manchester Lancers on October 3rd. “I’m the most proud of our defense this year,” Toliver said. “I think we do a really good job at defending, and our offense could have some more wheels on them, but I think we do a really good job on defense.”
