Students gathered in the closed commons on the morning of Sat., Mar. 15, all for one purpose: to review Calculus.
Amber Mierchuk and David Speaks, the two AP Calculus teachers, hosted the first of their two coveted Sat. Review Sessions. The review sessions are held with the goal of helping the AP students review for the exam outside of class, with the promise of snacks and extra credit to encourage attendance and participation.
“It’s hard to get enough class time to where we can get in a solid review,” Speaks said. “Basically we look at a couple of dates on the calendar that seem like they’ll work for our schedule and then we try to give out enough notice to the students so that they can make it.”
Students reviewed multiple topics, both old and current, in the form of three stations. With many practice questions, and plenty of time to ask the teachers or AP Calculus BC student volunteers valuable questions, the review session was a worthwhile experience for those in attendance.
“It’s helping me prepare for the exam because we’re getting exposed to more questions that we will find on the AP exam,” Ananya Premkumar, 11, said. “We’re learning more tricks that we forgot in the previous units.”
The next review session is planned for Sat., May 10, just two days before the AP Calculus AB exam.
