The winter storm from Feb 12 to 13 resulted in a winter wonderland of snow – but how wonderful was it really?
With more than a foot of accumulated precipitation of snow and rain, the perfect blanket of snow turned out to be more of a layer of sleet and ice, freezing all of the roads and making the conditions prime for accidents. These scary conditions resulted in a two day period at home for students, where they had time to catch up with their classes and enjoy the day off. “I had no power,” Madelyn Eslinger, 12, said, “So I waited until my phone died, and then went to hang out with my friends. I had no water, either.”
Specifically, the roads by the school were perilous. The four way intersection on Charter Colony and Woolridge Road was a strong source of anguish for most of the Midlothian residents. In the early morning of Feb. 13, the light was out and flashing.
No water, no power, and icy conditions – though not ideal, the weather resulted in days off that were ones for the books.
