An after-school bake sale was held in the name of Swim Across America on Jan. 24. Swim Across America is a cancer research charity that hosts charity swims, and has raised over $100 million for research.
“I wanted to do something with a charity that had something to do with swimming, so I chose Swim Across America,” student host of the event, Sabrina Gernhart, 12, said. “Swim Across America raises money for cancer research, and I wanted to support this organization because it combines my interest in swimming and my empathy for people with cancer.”
Swim Across America, founded in 1987, and has hosted swims all over the states. Other students participated in this bake sale, equally passionate about the greater cause of helping fuel research for the disease.
“I like to support this because it is a great cause,” Sarah Elmi, 12, said. “I have several individuals in my life who have, unfortunately, passed away from cancer or dealt with cancer in the past, so I think it’s really important that research on cancer is done, and that a cure is found for all these cancer types.”
