When it launched in 2020, BeReal, the French photo-sharing social media platform, it was not quick to catch momentum with people. However, early in 2021 the app started to trend and is still one of the top downloaded apps. The app attempts to focus on presenting the real you to the world without filters.
BeReal prompts you no matter where you are to post a non-filtered photo once a day preferably within the two minute window of time. The app looks to put a primary focus on people being natural and authentic, but now the app could be a thing of the past as a new competitor has entered the market.
Lapse is a social disposable camera app. This app lets close groups of people recreate the magic and some of the experience of old-school disposable cameras. This photo app turns your phone into a disposable camera in which the photo you snapped remains a mystery until it “develops” at a random point later that day. Then users are prompted share their photos to their “Friends Feed”.
There is one caveat though if you are looking to download the app. Lapse requires users to invite friends in order to starting using its platform. Once Lapse verifies a user, it ask permission for their contacts, and then forces them to add at least five friends. The user has to send out invites as the fun of the app only works with friends.
Lapse is changing the social media game as it allows users to post for their friends, unlike the other social media such as Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok where you are mainly posting to followers. Which is quickly gaining popularity among the younger users of the app.
