Freshmen attend first high school awards assembly

2019 freshman awards assembly

On Monday, June 3, 2019, freshmen gathered at Midlothian High School in the auditorium for their very first high school awards assembly. Freshmen excitedly took their seats, while proud parents looked on. After a welcome from Freshman Class President Luke Maddirala, Midlothian Principal Dr. Shawn Abel addressed the freshman class with an encouraging speech and recognition of their achievements and hard work this year.

Throughout the assembly, various teachers awarded certificates based on their subject areas to students who deserved recognition for standing out in the classroom. Activities Director Mrs. Shea Collins then asked all athletes to stand, calling them out by team and included band members, cheerleaders, and dance team, underscoring their significance to Midlo’s success. She encouraged the rest of the students to get involved during their remaining years of high school to make a difference in their school.

Dr. Denise Bowes then recognized students who received perfect scores on the SOL, while those who maintained straight A’s or all A’s and B’s throughout the school year earned academic letters.  Dr. Abel then closed the ceremony with a heartfelt speech to the freshmen beginning the new chapter of their lives within their high school careers, congratulating them on all of their outstanding achievements. Dr. Abel challenged them to find activities to join to enrich their own lives, as well as Midlothian High School.
