From April 24th to 26th, the auditorium transformed into a hauntingly beautiful world of teenage turmoil, telekinesis, and tragedy as the drama department brought Carrie: The Musical to life. Based on Stephen King’s classic novel, this production was anything but ordinary.
The cast delivered powerful performances, with the lead actress, Riley Lippard, portraying Carrie White in a heart-wrenching and unforgettable way. From the timid whispers in the locker room to the explosive climax at prom, she commanded the stage with strength. The role of Margaret White, Carrie’s overbearing mother, was equally mesmerizing, as Paige Alley’s voice showed her battle between love and control.
The set design was impressively dynamic. Gym lockers, flickering lights, and a blood-red prom finale made for a visually striking experience. The tech crew outdid themselves, particularly in the iconic prom scene, where the special effects and lighting pulled the audience straight into Carrie’s nightmare.
Libby Jenkins, the director, took a creative risk be deciding to produce Carrie. In the past, the theater department has produced lighter musicals such as Mamma Mia and Mean Girls. Choreographed numbers like “The World According to Chris” and “Do Me a Favor” brought high energy, while ballads such as “When There’s No One” delivered emotional depth.
In a story where cruelty meets consequence, Carrie: The Musical reminded us all of the importance of kindness and the dangers of judgment. As the curtain fell on the final night, the standing ovation was more than applause—it was recognition of the talent, hard work, and courage it took to bring such a complex story to the stage.
