The 2025 Masters Tournament this year is being held from April 10-13 at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. Budget for prizes is larger than ever, with a total purse of $20 million – projected payout for the winner is over $3.6 million.
John Pruitt, coach of the Midlothian Golf Team fame predicts that last year’s third place finisher will be the one to take home the green jacket. “I believe Collin Morikawa is going to win this year’s Masters,” Pruitt said. Morikawa, 28, has three top 10 finishes at the Masters. Since then, in 2025, Morikawa has played in 5 PGA tours, being runner up for two, and reaching the top 10 for the other three.
Other top contenders include Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and Xander Schauffele. McIlroy has not won the Masters before, but has been in the top 10 seven times. On the other hand, Scheffler has won twice: 2022 and 2024. In 2023, he tied for tenth. Schauffele has not won the Masters before, but won two of the Majors in 2024. Bryson Dechambeau and Jon Rahm round out the remaining favorites to win the tournament.
As of the first day, Justin Rose is taking the lead with 7 under par, shooting a 65 through Round 1. Shortly following him is Ludvig Aberg of Sweden, Corey Conners, and Scottie Scheffler, who are tied for the runner up position.
This invite only tournament is one of the biggest sporting events of the year, and we are looking forward to the inevitable drama that is already beginning to surface at Amen Corner.
