The American Sign Language (ASL) Club had its first meeting of the year on Monday, September 9. Students all across the school gathered to learn more about sign language and the basics of signing. Gathering every Monday in MAP 1, the ASL club aims to communicate with all varieties of people.
“My favorite part of American Sign Language is how helpful it is in any situation, and how it is fun to learn,” Danielle Pham, 12, said. “I always love to learn new things.”
Pham has been taking ASL for two years now. Pham and many others find ASL helpful, and fun to participate in. She enjoys the class and loves to learn about communication, like many other students in the club.
Carson Barringer, 10, also shows an interest in communicating towards people who otherwise may go unreached out to. “My favorite part of ASL is being able to communicate with more people,” Barringer said.
Learning how to speak to all types of people is a lifelong skill that many in the ASL club aspire to master. While communication plays an important role in everyone’s enjoyment of the club, others also enjoy the community that ASL club has built.
“I enjoy learning, and getting to meet new people, and being with a cool community I helped to build,” Van Tassel, 12, said.
