Clouds covered the sky and rain fell as students prepared to run five kilometers in Richmond on May 18. Students in the Giving Hearts Club gathered outside The Diamond at 9:30 to raise money for children with cancer. Every participant gave 30 dollars to partake in the 19th annual ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation 5K and Fun Run.
“It was a very successful, first charitable event for the Giving Hearts Club,” Club Sponsor Jillana Hicks said.
Students involved received a drawstring bag, ASK t-shirt, a ticket to the Flying Squirrel’s game, and a metal once they completed the five kilometers.
The foundation raised over $240,000 for children diagnosed with cancer. A local company will also donate $10,000 to the ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation.
“I am glad we created this charitable club,” Hicks said. “We have big plans for future charitable events.”
