Boys Tennis Meets Cosby at Home
Varsity Tennis Preview
On Tuesday, March 28, Boys Tennis will meet the Cosby Titans at home for the first time. Midlothian is currently 3-1, with their sole defeat in their last match against Deep Run High School. Meanwhile, the Titans have played four times. Not the first time the Trojans and the Titans meet. In fact, they will play each other once more in May, on the Cosby courts.
According to Anish Gutha (11), their loss to Deep Run helps show their improvement from previous years. Many of the lines played had very close results, and Line 6 Carter Nelson (10) and Line 3 Doubles Walker Anderson (11), Ford Marshall (10) secured victory.
“A lot of our matches were much closer; it is obvious our dedication and hard work have yielded remarkable achievements,” Gutha said.
As for the worries that the heavy loss will impact the match against Cosby, the team believes it will not be a problem.
“It won’t impact us much because we’re still one of the best teams in the region,” Gutha said.
According to Griffin Bennett-Nguyen (11), Deep Run is one of the best teams in the state, so the match was a way to see how much the team has grown.
“If anything,” Gutha said. “The defeat will serve as motivation.”
Finally, as Midlothian will be playing at home, the atmosphere of the match will heavily affect the match. According to Gutha, the teammates are comfortable with each other, contributing to team chemistry.
“Overall, the atmosphere has been easygoing and likely to remain that way,” Gutha said.
Despite their recent loss, Midlothian has been in strong form. In their first three matches, they were 26-1 in sets played, with their only set loss coming in their first match of the season. While Cosby is a strong team, the Trojans have a winning record against them. Bennett-Nguyen and Johnathan Fogle (11) are expected to win in particular.
“I am convinced that we will win against Cosby High School. Moreover, I think Griffin Bennett-Nguyen will play really well at Line 2,” Gutha said.
