On Saturday, March 7, 2020, James River High School senior Luke Lamberson hosted a corn hole tournament to raise money and awareness for Hilliard House, the largest emergency family shelter in Richmond.

Beginning with a Round Robin Exhibition, thirty-eight teams competed in a tournament for a grand prize of $200 in cash and an accompanying trophy. Contestants could also enter raffles for gift cards to Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Southbound RVA, a 30 day ACAC membership, and 4 field level tickets to see the Richmond Flying Squirrels play through scoring consecutive corn holes, receiving a raffle ticket per cornhole.

When attendees were not playing, they made baskets full of games and toys for families moving into a new house from the shelter and painting pictures for the families. Since the tournament, Lamberson has raised almost $4,500, and 100% of the proceeds from food and refreshments, raffle tickets, and the tournament entry fee benefit Hilliard House.
