On Saturday, October 26, 2019, Midlo IB students traveled to Kings Dominion to experience Halloween Haunt. With the amusement park packed to the fullest, no one could see the actors lying in wait. Halloween Haunt opened for weekends starting October 4, and closes November 2. The IB Student Council has diligently planned the “meet-up” since elections in late September. Everyone met at 7 p.m. and then split up into smaller groups by grade level; students enjoyed walking around the park and hope to continue the tradition for years to come.
Moving through the park, most of the actors concentrated their movements inside of the Haunt’s attractions, but some migrated around the park. Kings Dominion had 17 new attractions for Halloween Haunt; overall, the favorite Halloween attractions were Lockdown, Cornstalkers, and the Yard.
Sariah Cutri liked the Lockdown attraction because “You couldn’t tell what was going to be a real person and what was just a stuffed doll.” Most of the attractions took place on traditional roller coasters, but others occurred in special Halloween Haunt buildings. While the lines for the Halloween attractions were long, they moved very fast, and attendees usually waited no longer than 30 minutes for any one ride. Of his adventure, Jacob Cantor commented, “We were all scared at one point, some more than others, but we all had a good time. The scare zones were as freaky as ever, and we all huddled together while the volunteers screamed and ran at us in a menacing fashion. One of my friends was so obviously scared that everyone targeted her, and we all got a good kick out of it. I would absolutely go again next year.”
