Peyton Geiszler, Elizabeth Czenczek, Rebecca Gonzales, Hannah Strickland, Sophie King, Katie Daniluk, and Hallie Strickland get motivated for their first meet.

Under the instruction of Coach Gene Bryson and Assistant Coach Garrett Graham, Midlothian swimmers start their first season as a VHSL sport this year. Last year as a club sport, Midlo closed out the season with a 5th place for girls and a 3rd place for boys. The end of the season brought tears and goodbyes for seniors, Bradley Jenkins, Brennan Richie, Camryn Curry, Grace Davis, Erin Geiszler, and Billie Vanstory. With a new season comes a new team. Along with many returning swimmers, Matt Rice, Griffin Connors, and Madelaine McDowell, come many new ones, Sydney Boehman, Lilly Gentile, Allie Buys, and Grace Haring.

To help their swimmers prepare for their first meet, Bryson and Garrett pushed them to do their best in practices. On Tuesday, November 28, 2017, Midlo swimmers started their swim season at the All-County Kick-Off swim meet. Midlo finished the meet with a 5th place for girls and a 4th place for boys. Junior Samuel McKey placed 5th in his 100 Fly. Sophomore Alexi Gentz placed 4th in the Men’s 100 Freestyle. Senior Samuel Garbara placed 8th in his 100 Backstroke. Midlo’s A relay, composed of: Caleb Smietana, Justin Geiszler, Alexi Gentz, and Dominik Flisiak, placed 3rd in the Men’s 200 Relay.

Strong talent from numerous swimmers gives Midlo promising looks for the rest of the season. Come support Midlothian’s swim team as they take on Clover Hill at SwimRVA pool on December 7, 2017.
