Girls Soccer Looks to Rebuild

As spring begins, so does soccer season. The girls soccer team is rebuilding after losing nine seniors, seven of whom currently play on a collegiate team. Last year, they lost to Heritage in the state semifinals for the second year in a row. The girls are also introducing a new head coach, Jessica Kramer, who is a first-year teacher at Midlothian. During practice, she focuses on team-building and passing and has implemented a new formation, consisting of four defender, four midfielders in a diamond formation, and two attackers. Last year, they lost their head coach, Cammie Bennett, who left coaching to spend more time with her family. This year’s roster features a particularly young team and only one senior, Kendall Lewis, but the team views it as a building year.

The team started their season strong against Clover Hill, beating them 1-0 off of an amazing free kick by junior captain, Abby Snead. This great win kicks off their season on a strong note, since Clover Hill beat Cosby, one of the best teams in the state. The team believes that their biggest rivals this year will be James River and Cosby, whom they will have to play at home during the same week on May 10th and 15th respectively. The final home game of the season, also senior night, will be on the 15th of May against Cosby and is regarded as the biggest game of the season for the girls.
